NYC - Day 2

4/9/2014

On the second day of the Symphonic/Concert orchestra's competition trip to NYC, students took an extensive bus/walking tour throughout New York City, exploring Central Park, cathedrals, major landmarks, famous buildings, etc. One highlight included a visit to Strawberry Fields inside Central Park, a portion of the park dedicated to John Lennon after his assassination, neighboring Yoko Ono's current residence. Another highlight was visiting St. John of the Divine Cathedral to see their limited time Phoenix exhibit. Our tour guide was sure to point of important statues, art galleries, celebrity apartment complexes, and other buildings. What an awesome, detailed adventure to learn so much of New York City's history!

After the tour, we enjoyed a entertaining dinner at the spooky Jekyll & Hyde Restaurant in the heart of Time Square! Waiters and waitresses donned creepy costumes and the restaurant was designed as a sort of haunted house with surprises everywhere!

The night ended with an absolutely amazing visit to Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center to see the New York Philharmonic perform Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 and Vivier's Orion!
