About the MHSO Parents Association
What is McLean High School Orchestra PARENTS Association?
The McLean High School Orchestra (MHSO) PARENTS Association is a parent-run organization dedicated to supporting the student musician and the overall orchestra program through hands-on volunteer support. If you have a child in the orchestra program, you are automatically a member of the Association, and we welcome your participation in all Orchestra activities.
As many of you know, we achieved an important milestone in the Fall of 2010: Our Association was granted the status of a tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. This means that all contributions to the orchestra program’s new Patron program are now tax-deductible.
It also means we are required to file a tax return each year. Our PARENTS Association operates with the guidance of the board of directors, and the support of many dedicated volunteers. The Association is incorporated in Virginia and operates according to a set of bylaws.
We schedule to meet on a monthly basis to discuss how we can be most effective and you are invited and encouraged to participate. Reminders for the meetings will be posted on the website home page.
What is our mission?
Our mission is to support our students and orchestra director so that they will have a successful and enjoyable year. Year after year, we have a wealth of talented parents who come together to fill in the gaps where needed. We organize social and fundraising activities, maintain communications, provide chaperones for trips, assist the orchestra director, maintain student accounts, and generally help in any way we can. Some of you are taking charge of particular activities, which is a tremendous help and allows us to ensure that every concert, trip or fundraiser is staffed appropriately. We want to help our children and their orchestra classmates succeed in their efforts to become better musicians. It shows our students that we care about them. And we want all orchestra parents to be informed about what is happening in the musical life of our children.
