CHAMBER SOLOISTS (ADVANCED ORCHESTRA - LEVEL 2)

Chamber Soloists are considered Level III advanced, dedicated musicians who all take private instruction in their chosen instrument.  Chamber Soloists perform at least five concerts a year and in addition, have the opportunity in the course of the school year to perform in smaller ensembles.  In the 2006/2007 school year, there were 28 Chamber Soloists.

This orchestra for the most advanced level string player, form the representative string-performing group for the McLean High School.  Students are expected to play three octave scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats and should be able to play level VI string music. The course helps students develop technical, ensemble and disciplinary skills necessary for refined rehearsal and performance. Chamber Soloists perform at least five concerts a year and in addition, have the opportunity in the course of the school year to perform in smaller ensembles.  There is a weekly evening rehearsal. Rehearsals and performances both in and out of school are required.

This orchestra also has an exchange program with a youth orchestra in Detmold, Germany. There are opportunities to travel to Germany and to host German students.  In 2007, at the invitation of the Virginia Music Educators Association, the McLean Chamber Soloists performed at the VMEA's annual conference, which took place at the Homestead, Warm Springs, VA.  They and left a lasting impression upon the VMEA audience.  

      Chamber Strings scored the coveted # 1 (Superior) at the District XII Orchestra Festival in March, 2008.
